2012 will see the Mini Challenge move into its 11th successive season of competition.
This year the challenge will continue to run two main classes, the John Cooper Works class which uses the latest R56 Turbocharged Minis and the Club Class which offers drivers new to the sport the opportunity to learn their craft in the robust Mini Cooper.
A large part of the Challenges appeal is its approach to ‘fair play’, which really lets driving talent shine through on the track.
Measures for a level playing field include:
-
Control tyres
-
Limited number of new tyres
-
Control fuel and fuel testing
-
Enforced ‘parc ferme’ rules
-
ECU checking
-
ECU re programming
-
Performance checking from data
-
Sealed components
-
Data logging
-
Physical strip and inspect
-
Dedicated championship scales
All of this really does mean that the best driver wins.
The Mini Challenge format offers a real taste of what it’s like to race in British and World Touring Cars. Two to four races a weekend, reverse grids, and a rolling start all add to the excitement.
With excellent Television exposure for strategic partners, the Challenge really is the place to start your Touring Car Career.
